About this map
The map shows the houses listed in the directory of monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, maintained by the Synodal Commission of the UOC for Monastery Affairs. Each marker is one monastery in its own place. Where houses stand close together the markers gather into a numbered cluster: zoom in and the cluster opens into the separate houses.
What a marker opens
Click a marker and a short summary appears: the name of the house, whether it is a men's or a women's monastery, its eparchy and settlement, together with a link to the full entry and a button that will plan a route to it. The full entry holds the contacts, a link to the monastery's own site, and — where the research is complete — a historical account with references to its sources.
Where the data comes from
This map and the directory of monasteries draw on one and the same source: the Commission's register, which is checked against the eparchies. A house found on the map and the same house in the list are therefore always the same entry with the same information. If you notice an error in a location or in a house's details, please write to us; corrections are made after verification with the eparchy.
If the journey is not possible
A map is for those who can set out. If reaching a monastery is not possible for you now — because of distance, illness or the war itself — services from the monasteries of the UOC can be watched online, as live broadcasts. More about this resource and about the Commission is on the about page.
