Ascension female skete

The Ascension female skete stands in the village of Vilshana in the Kharkiv region, in the Dvorichna district. A stone church in honour of the Ascension of the Lord began to be built here in 1822: two zealous parishioners, Myshak and Chaban, travelled to Kharkiv to ask permission for this, and before the stone church was built a wooden house of prayer was set up1.
The materials for the house of prayer were prepared, and it was built, by two other peasants - Mykhailo Kutko and Maksym Kolesnyk - and at the end of 1822 a priest, Stefan Oranskyi, was assigned there1. The foundation of the stone church was laid in 1825, it was consecrated in 1834, and in 1846, through the efforts of a new priest, Andrii Kapustin, the church was freed of its debts and fully completed1.
Today's Church of the Holy Ascension on this site continues the same dedication to the Ascension of the Lord that the village carried before the revolution2. It is one of six parishes and five chapels of the Dvorichna deanery3.
